Average review score:

Facinating Look at Behind the Scenes at a country auction
I loved this book. Wm Hubbard is a legend among antique auctioneers in the Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts. This collection of amusing anecdotes gives the outsider a realistic taste of the adventurous antique business. This book is a must for antique buffs everywhere

Authority and Reform: Religious and Educational Discourses in Nineteenth-Century New England Literature
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Tennessee Pr (March, 2003)
Author: Mark G. Vasquez
Average review score:

Engaging analysis of American culture!
This book provides a wide-ranging analysis of the religious and educational influences on 19th-century American literature, with a particular attention to literature by women, as well as canoncial male authors. Fuller, Child, Alcott, Stowe, and Sedgwick are read alongside Emerson and Hawthorne in this provocative look at the rhetorical shifts and discursive complexities underpinning a range of literature, from novels and essays to tracts, manuals and "self-help" books. A must for any scholar of 19th century American literature!

Balance and Swing: A Collection of Fifty Five Squares Contras and Triplets in the New England Tradition With Music for Each Dance

Author: Ted Sannella
Average review score:

A classic.
Ted Sannella has put together a useful and accessible book. The material is somewhat dated, but it still contains material that should be in every New England Traditional dance caller's collection.

Volume II (Western Shore)
This book (ISBN 0-9613008-2-5) is actually titled "Bay Tripper Chesapeake Bay Travel Guide Volume II Western Shore" and is not to be confused with the other edition "Volume I Eastern Shore".

This book is a handy guide to have with you as you explore the many small towns along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The book lists attractions, lodging, restaurants, and more for each town.

The Berkshires
Published in Hardcover by Berkshire House Pub (May, 1995)
Author: Bill Binzen
Average review score:

Fantastic foliage
I'm originally from Western Massachusetts now living in Northern California and recently went back to the Berkshires for a visit. This book was in every room of the large resort we stayed at and I immediately went and purchased my own copy at the gift shop. There are amazing seasonal pictures of the entire Berkshires region along with some of the authors commentary and local history. If you have ever been to the Berkshires in Mass, this publication will take you back and if you've never had the opportunity to travel there you'll feel as if you did after thumbing through the book.

Berlitz Dutch Phrase Book (Berlitz Phrase Books)
Published in Paperback by Berlitz Multimedia (August, 1999)
Author: Berlitz Publishing Company
Average review score:

helpful for traveling abroad
I am a student, who is traveling to belgium and the netherlands this summer, so i thought i would learn some french and dutch basics. the berlitz dutch phrase book is quite helpful for someone who only speaks english fluently and some spanish. it gives pronunciation guides with each word, which is quite helpful considering how difficult each phrase looks upon first glance. Once you learn a bit, you start seeing the similiarities between english and dutch, which help you remember it in the long run. it includes basic expressions/accomodations, eating out, travel, sightseeing, stores & services, health, reference, and dictionary sections. another helpful tool would be to get the accompanying cassette tape, which lets you hear the pronunciations and helps you learn better, although they speak a little fast for the basic beginner.

BEST BIKE PATHS OF NEW ENGLAND : Safe, Scenic and Traffic-free Bicycling
Published in Paperback by Fireside (04 April, 1996)
Author: Wendy Williams
Average review score:

A great appetizer!
This book was a nice introduction to some of the bike paths in New England. The path descriptions, for the paths I have ridden, were very accurate. The only thing missing were detailed maps of the trails themselves.

Best Hikes With Children in Vermont, New Hampshire, & Maine
Published in Paperback by Mountaineers Books (October, 1991)
Authors: Cynthia C. Lewis and Thomas J. Lewis
Average review score:

Useful but not comprehensive
A good book which largely delivers what it promises. However, it is best used in conjunction with a more comprehensive map and/or guide, if you're visiting a particular region. Give it 4.5 stars.

Good Points: 1) The author points out "kid-friendly" features on hikes and gives good descriptions. 2) Most of the hikes have pretty good thumbnail maps

Drawbacks: 1) Introductory map could be better (more detailed) to help reader find trails 2) Some hikes lack thumbnail maps. Why? 3) Abilities of children vary wildly. We found that a "moderate" hike can be strenuous for an inexperienced or out-of-shape child (or adult, for that matter).

Birds of Massachusetts (Natural History of New England Series)
Published in Hardcover by Massachusetts Audubon Society (August, 1993)
Authors: Richard R. Veit, Wayne R. Petersen, and Barry W. Van Dusen
Average review score:

focused record of bird-sightings
Not a field guide, this is a systematic COMPLETE record of bird-sightings in Massachusetts. It is pretty dry, but has information that can interest even a casual bird-watcher (when were Ethiopian Cattle Egrets first recognized in the U.S.?) Since it shows maps of every breeding pair seen of a given species, it can answer pretty definitively whether you are seeing a Black- Chinned Hummingbird or not.

Black and White New York (Black and White Cities Series)
Published in Hardcover by Lickle Publishing Inc. (May, 1994)
Author: Bill Harris
Average review score:

Small book about a big city
I've never been to NY. But I'd like to. So I thought I had found something special. And I was right. For someone from a far country like me this book can be interesting. It contains about 50 black & white photos by various authors (e.g. Todd Webb, Sid Kaplan, Mary Ellen Mark) along with short commentaries. The photos concentrate more on sociological occurrences and events of city's history than on its architecture. One could only wish bigger format of the book and more photos in it.
